AOA Confirms InfantSEE® Provider List

A message from the AOA and your InfantSEE® State Leader, Dr. Jeff Kenyon.

National InfantSEE® public awareness efforts have increased with advertising in Parents Magazine and on www.babyzone.com this year. Even more outreach is planned for 2008. The AOA and Michigan Optometric Association encourage InfantSEE® providers in Michigan to recommit your energy and participation in the InfantSEE® program in 2008.

A recent survey of participating doctors conducted by AOA revealed that approximately 15% of doctors had not yet provided an InfantSEE® assessment in their practice. While a variety of reasons were listed, the AOA InfantSEE® Committee believes that many doctors are simply waiting for patients to call for appointments. InfantSEE® providers repeatedly share with us that actively promoting InfantSEE® does not require excessive work or drastic changes to their practice operations.

Consider letting go of the “wait and see” approach by implementing one or more of these provider-tested promotional tactics:

  • Enlist staff to tell patients about InfantSEE®, especially expectant and new moms;
  • Place an “on-hold” message educating callers about InfantSEE® on your phone system;
  • Introduce InfantSEE® to local representatives of organizations such as Parents as Teachers, La Leche League, and Head Start;
  • Pass out InfantSEE® leaflets and bookmarks (available to providers free of charge)

The official roster of InfantSEE® providers is attached. Please review this list to make sure it correctly lists your participation. And please be certain your office staff knows that you have made that commitment to the program. Doing so ensures a smooth process for every parent who calls an office for an appointment.

If you see your name on this list and would like to discuss your participation status with AOA staff, please send an email to infantsee@aoa.org. We urge you to continue your participation and to expand your community’s awareness of InfantSEE®.

If you are not on this list, we urge you join nearly 7,700 of your colleagues and enroll today as an InfantSEE® provider. It is the most noble decision you can make for your patients, your community, and your profession. AOA hopes another 2,500 doctors nationwide will join the InfantSEE® provider team – if you are interested but have not participated before please send AOA staff an email to infantsee@aoa.org.

The world DOES change one life at a time. The question is: Will we change it by acting or by watching? We hope you choose to do so actively—one baby at a time—as an InfantSEE® provider in your community.

PS: Please continue to monitor AOA News and the InfantSEE® Provider Newsletter for more stories about infants whose lives have been impacted by InfantSEE®.
